I approach every interaction with my clients from an open, positive, compassionate, accepting, and empowering perspective. That means I look for, celebrate, and value your unique strengths, courage, accomplishments, and limitless potential. I honor the process of our interactions by remaining respectful and client-focused. I will not discriminate against you or judge you in a negative, demeaning, or dismissive way. I will always try to show respect for your beliefs, values, perceptions, and worldview as significant representations of your truth. I will hold you in positive focus and I will approach your goals from a positive perspective. Importantly, I view each of my clients as worthy, complex, and capable of achieving their own unique goals and dreams.
When working with clients, my interactive approaches are based on the foundations of the Coaching Model (International Coaching Federation), positive psychology, humanistic psychology, Logotherapy, solution focused techniques, and a person-centered orientation. These interactive approaches are positively oriented and recognize the inherent value of each client's subjective life experiences as being valuable, unique, and authentic.
The non-diagnostic orientation of the Coaching Model is a good fit for clients who are emotionally and psychologically well and who prefer participating in a collaborative relationship of equality between themselves and me, where I recognize my client as the expert in their own life. This allows me to assist my clients in finding the answers within themselves as we navigate through the challenges in their life that may be prohibiting them from achieving their goals. Importantly, I do not pathologize. I prefer to listen to my clients to understand them, not to diagnose them.
Utilizing a positive psychology approach allows me to emphasize well-being, life satisfaction, optimism, contentment, and hope as pathways that flow into potential happiness for my clients. I focus on the positive trait characteristics and skills of my clients, which increases or enhances their capacity to love, persevere, forgive, and experience personal agency, wisdom, growth, and success. Logotherapy emphasizes the motivation of all people to live purposefully by continuously seeking meaning in their lives. Recognizing the reality of negative experiences as a part of every person's life journey, Logotherapy emphasizes the ability of each client to seek meaning from all of their life experiences. Finally, humanistic and person-centered approaches allow me to focus on my clients with unconditional positive regard, instead of focusing only on their problems, while empowering them through nondirective interactions that help to support their goals for personal growth and change.
