Like many of us, I have been stretched and shaped by the bumps, dips, drops, and turns throughout my life, and yet, through it all – despite it all, I thought I was content with my life. After completing my Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature I stepped out into the larger world hoping to make positive difference. After a while I realized that I felt suction-cupped in place. My life had the illusion of movement without any real forward progress taking place. And that realization was the catalyst I needed to make a change in the direction of my life. I began to evaluate what I really wanted so that I could define, clarify, and achieve my new goals and dreams.
I decided to go back to school because I wanted to have the highest levels of knowledge and skills necessary to help other people make a positive difference in their own lives. I earned a Masters degree and a Ph.D. in psychology. My educational focus was on understanding the complexity and nuances of human behavior (social, emotional, interpersonal, and intrapersonal), including the challenges of communication, interactions, and connections between children, individuals, couples, families, and groups.
Now I use that knowledge to help others who may feel suction-cupped in place in their own lives, so that they can move forward in a tangible, genuine, and measurable way, toward their own goals and dreams.
